Selva Script is the calligraphic companion to Selva, released alongside the Roman family by Fanny Hamelin through Colophon Foundry in 2021. Where the Roman and Italic cuts engage with the structural tradition of Scotch typefaces, the Script takes a different route: classical calligraphy, rendered through connected letterforms, rhythmic letter structures, and the kind of flowing joins that belong to written rather than printed type.

The calligraphic influence is clearest in the details — pinched curves, tall capitals, and generous ascenders and descenders that carry the vertical drama of formal penmanship. Against those elements, Hamelin introduces a systematic, almost mechanical quality: drops cut at right angles, sharp breaks, a consistent internal logic that keeps the Script from drifting into decorative excess. The result sits productively between the expressive and the controlled.

Available in five weights with a variable edition, Selva Script performs best as a complement to the Roman family rather than in isolation, where the dialogue between the two cuts is most legible. The pairing has found particular uptake in editorial and identity contexts requiring warmth alongside typographic rigour.
