Fournier is a transitional serif typeface revived by Monotype in 1924–1925, based on the types of the French punchcutter Pierre-Simon Fournier le jeune (1712–1768). One of the most influential type designers of the eighteenth century, Fournier is celebrated for his elegant letterforms, his pioneering development of the typographic point system, and his landmark publication, the Manuel Typographique.
The Monotype revival faithfully captures the refined proportions and delicate stroke contrast of Fournier’s original designs. Its combination of classical authority and typographic refinement makes it a distinguished choice for book typography and editorial work.
