Neue Haas Unica is a revival of the original Haas Unica typeface, which was designed in 1980 as a hybrid of Helvetica, Univers, and Akzidenz Grotesk. It was conceived to improve on the limitations of these classics while combining their strengths.

The 2015 revival by Toshi Omagari for Monotype modernized the typeface for digital use, expanding its character set and refining its features to meet contemporary design standards.
