Saans began as an internal project, a typeface designed to serve the foundry's own needs without drawing attention away from its retail offering. The brief was clear: neutral, complementary, unobtrusive. As designers with a deep appreciation for the no-style aesthetic, the team found that Saans fit the foundry's identity almost naturally. Typography has always had a vocabulary for this kind of design: grotesque, neutral, standard, normal. These are not shortcomings, they are qualities. Like the Swiss typefaces that defined so much of modern graphic design, Saans is universal by intention. It may not demand attention, but it rewards sustained use. Where others might see the pedestrian, the foundry sees the dependable — a typeface as comfortable in ten years as it is today.
