Gza draws its inspiration from French oldstyle typeface DeVinne by Gustav Schroeder from 1893 — concerning the need for plainer types of display and a return to the simplicity of the true old-style character. Gza’s strong colour, apertures, stroke contrast, and proportions are designed to excel as a body typeface in small sizes. The brutality of the triangle serifs and its pointed shapes contrasts with the drop-shaped endings. This clash of two formal principles makes it perfectly suitable for headlines too. Gza comes with distinctive, yet very legible italic versions and the razor-sharp display cut “Super”.
